When it comes to looking after one of our products once you have received it, we have tried to make it as simple as possible.

Internal

For all of our products meant for internal use, we finish them in natural oils and wax to give the wood a layer of protection and lustre.

To keep this shine or if you just want to polish up, all you need to use is a natural polishing wax or furniture spray to keep the dust off and help keep the shine. Ideally, a natural polish or beeswax should be used to help nourish the wood but this is optional and the wood will continue to last and age indoors for many many years without the need to maintain it.

External

For any of our products meant to be left outside, we have decided to leave them without a finish on, just sanded to a very high standard. The reason for this is two-fold.

One, the woods we have selected for external use are very hard-wearing and naturally adapted to survive outside, meaning that they will silver and age naturally as an exposed piece of wood. With the type of engraving, we use the text and images will clearly be visible for many many years without the need to do anything to them.

Two, we have encountered in the past many different styles of finish and types of products for sealing or protecting the wood. They all have advantages and disadvantages but all come down to one common factor, that they all need reapplication and herein lies the difficulty. Different manufacturers and different supplies may all have varying advice on when to do this, what is best and it is down to the individual to do this.

No finish on wood outside lasts forever and we like the way the wood ages naturally, but equally we leave it up to you if you choose to add a protective layer to your product after you have received it, it is entirely up to you do to so.
